New 2017 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid at West Valley Chrysler Jeep for Los Angeles, CA

Chrysler takes the lead in the minivan industry with its release of the 2017 Pacifica Hybrid- the first Hybrid minivan ever made. This sleek and modern minivan crushes competitors with its total driving range estimated at 566 miles, according to Chrysler. The Pacifica Hybrid keeps all the same exterior design features of its non-hybrid version but it has plug-in electrical capability. The 2017 Pacifica is a new model for Chrysler, designed with a wider stance and the first independent rear suspension found in one of its minivans. The Pacifica designers did not skimp on hi-tech features either. A highlight for the little ones and the parents transporting them is the Uconnect Theater rear seat entertainment system. Add to this all the numerous safety features plus the generous $7,500 federal tax credit offered, and the Pacifica Hybrid climbs to the top as being one of the most sensible minivans of the 21st Century.

Under the Pacifica Hybrid's Hood

The Pacifica Hybrid has two power sources, the 16-kWh lithium-ion battery and the adapted 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine.  When powered by the battery, the vehicle gives off zero emissions. As the battery depletes, the vehicle shifts into a traditional hybrid with regenerative braking. The minivan seamlessly transitions between electric and hybrid power on its own.  The driver can easily look at the car's performance on the front touchscreen to check the power source and remaining battery life.  The lithium-ion battery takes 2 hours to fully charge using a 240-volt level 2 charger.  Or with the included 120-volt cable, the battery charges in 14 hours.  The Pacific Hybrid is capable of a total driving range of 566 miles on a full battery and filled gas tank.  Total electric driving range is 33 miles on a single charge, enough for all your daily back and forth trips across town to school and sports activities. The EPA estimates the Pacifica Hybrid's efficiency at 84 mpg when using both electricity and gas. The V-6 engine has been re-engineered with new pistons, valves and camshafts for higher efficiency, running on an Atkinson cycle, creating additional power from the two electric motors which contributes to the 260-horsepower combined system. An additional ingenious feature is the fuel monitoring system, which prompts full usage of the gasoline if the gas becomes stale.

Design of Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid

From the inside of the Pacifica Hybrid, one cannot tell that the vehicle has been designed to hold an electric battery or additional motors. The electric battery is stored under the second-row seats, normally where the Stow'n Go seats are placed.  One advantage to the foldable second-row seats is that they are more padded than the non-hybrid versions. The third-row seats still collapse into the floor, allowing for a lot of cargo space. The exterior design of the Pacifica Hybrid distinguishes itself from the conventional Pacifica with a unique, flowing grille, 18-inch wheels and teal color accents found across the vehicle, on the wheels, badging, logo, and stitching.  There are two trims available in the Pacifica Hybrid, the Premium and the Platinum.  The Platinum boasts a rear-seat entertainment center, a 360-degree camera, navigation systems, leather upholstery, automatic cruise controls, hands-free sliding doors and a hands-free liftgate, an optional panoramic sunroof, an optional 13-speaker Alpine stereo system, upgraded additional safety tech and more. If the price tag of the Platinum exceeds your budget, the Premium model still offers a host of features including: 17-inch wheels, keyless ignition and entry, leather seating, LED daytime running lights, foglights, second-row power windows, power-sliding doors and a power liftgate, an 8.4-inch touchscreen display, a six-speaker audio system and more. Additionally, the Premium model allows the addition of a basic overhead DVD player and a wireless device charging pad.

How do I charge the 2017 Pacifica Hybrid?

The lithium-ion battery takes 2 hours to fully charge using a 240-volt level 2 charger. A 240-volt adapter can be installed in your garage for added convenience.  Additionally, there are 240-volt charging stations located in most cities. Or, with the included 120-volt cable, you can charge the battery in 14 hours from a normal household outlet.
