Powertrains

In terms of powertrains, the Wrangler JK is available with a 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine that puts out 285 horsepower and 260 lb-ft of torque; this efficient engine is cast from lightweight aluminum and sips on regular-octane gas, providing drivers with a fuel efficient engine and lower annual gas prices. It can be paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission that can be matched with a Command-Trac 4x4 system on Sport and Sahara models and with Rock-Trac on Rubicon. Also available is a 5-speed automatic transmission that gives exceptional efficiency and performance with electronically-controlled engine torque which provides a smooth ride. In comparison, the 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL is available with either the 3.6-liter Pentastar V6 engine or a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. The turbocharged engine boasts 268 horsepower and 295 lb-ft of torque but is only available with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The 2.0-liter turbocharged engine provides excellent torque when cruising over rain-slicked rocks or plowing through water on your off-road adventures.

Interior

The new 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL is equipped with an impressive list of standard and optional interior features that accompany the vehicle’s new interior design. The up-to-date dash is surrounded by high quality materials, even on the standard Wrangler Sport model. Push-button start, steering wheel-mounted audio, voice and cruise control buttons, multiple USB ports, and LED lighting are all standard features on the JL. Available options include a 7 or 8.4-inch Uconnect touch screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Also available is a 7-inch digital gauge cluster display offering a wide variety of vehicle information. The Jeep Wrangler JK is also equipped with a plethora of standard and available features. Voice Command simplifies the driving experience by providing hands-free control of your AM/FM radio stations, SiriusXM and Satellite Radio, making calls, and controlling navigation. The available Travel Link lets you access useful vehicle information such as detailed weather maps, weather forecasts and alerts, sports scores, schedules for your favorite teams, and even fuel prices in your area.

Off-Road Ability

Both the 2018 Wrangler JK and JL models offer legendary off-road ability. Features include Tru-Lock locking differentials in front and rear which balance speed between the left and right wheels which helps maintain forward momentum for the highest level of traction. Dana® 44 heavy-duty solid axles provide durability from heavy shafts, stiff housings and large bearings. It’s also equipped with solid axles, stabilizer bars, coil springs, front steering damper and tunable monotube shock absorbers that are firm at lower speeds for off-road ability and more relaxed at higher speeds. The Command-Trac® 4x4 system available on both models divides torque 50/50 between front and rear axles for maximum traction. The Wrangler can also pull up to 2,000 lbs of gear when equipped with the Trailer Tow Group and the Wrangler Unlimited can tow up to 3,500 lbs with the Maximum Tow Package. In addition to the features of the JK, the JL also has tow hooks (two in the front and one rear), hill-start assist, electronic trailer-sway control, and optional towing package which is 3,500 lbs for four-door models. For the JL, the wheelbase increases by 1.4 inches from previous models to 96.8 inches in 2 door models, while 4-door models go up by 2.4 inches to 118.4 inches. Overall length increases in 2-door models by 2.5 inches to 166.8 inches and 4-door models grow by 3.5 inches to 188.4 inches overall.
